The Suite

Fast forward a few years later, and by this point, dad has established himself as an associate to the Lucchese crime family. My father quickly realized that he would never be able to be a leading or made man in the mafia, due to the fact that he was not fully Sicilian, but half [1]. Regardless, my father quickly rose to the top of the chain since he was good friends Vario and Burke and had earned their respect by not ratting them out to the police when he was taken into custody once[2]. Anyways, dad figured that in order to outsmart the FBI, he needed to avoid tax evasion; tax evasion was the biggest mafia/mobster downfall in his time. In 1969 dad bought a restaurant, The Suite; however, his restaurant became a place for his fellow mafiosos, mafia members [3], to hang out [6].

One night, dad was drinking with Burke, and a man by the name of DeSimone, at his restaurant. A man named William Devino came in to have drinks with dad and his friends; however, their cocktail party quickly escalated into something much more serious. DeSimone ended up shooting Devino for nasty remarks he made weeks prior. Dad helped his roll-up Devino in a mattress cover, and then they took him and put him in the trunk of a car. They went to go get a shovel from DeSimone's mother's house, and then continued on to take him and bury him in a private area. When dad and the others arrived at the burial site, they heard noises and rustling coming from the trunk. Dad opened up the trunk and then proceeded to beat Devino with the shovel and tire iron to make sure he was definitely dead. Out of all the stories I have heard about my father, this one is the most horrifying [2].
