Contract

After the Heist, dad was worried that Burke was going to come for him since a majority of the others involved in the heist were dead or missing. Dad was arrested for a drug possession charge on April 27, 1980. While he was in custody, the FBI came to talk to him. They played a recording of a conversation between Burke and Vario that they had obtained. In the tape, dad heard Burke say, "he needs to be whacked." The FBI told him to think about what he had heard and think about becoming an informant. Dad was released and immediately went to Burke for a job from Vario so he could make money. Burke told dad that Vario wanted them to go down to Florida and kill someone. This made dad skeptical; Vario never was the one to have his people intentionally go out and murder someone. This only meant that the person in question was him, and if he went to Florida with Burke, he was going to be a dead man. So, on May 27, 1980, dad signed a contract with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and became in informant, and in return, we would go into the Witness Protection Program.

As I informant dad helped the FBI arrest Burke, his closest friend for years. He also was able to help the bureau convict Vario along with others [1]. Dad had committed the biggest betrayal in the mafia world. He broke "Omerta," or his vow of silence, the Mafia Code. Dad broke the very first rule he learned from the very guys he helped arrest. He ratted on his friends to save himself. My father is known as being one of the most notorious criminals turned FBI informants [2].
